Similar to global seed banks on land, our seaweed seed bank acts as a critical biological infrastructure. We manage a diverse portfolio of seaweed species - including green, brown, and red algae - across their full life cycles. This includes commercially important species such as kelp, laver, and Asparagopsis, each cultivated and preserved under controlled biological conditions. Each species has distinct biological characteristics, growth conditions, and environmental tolerances. At F&W, we classify and manage these species to ensure optimal cultivation, resilience, and scalability. From spore collection to nursery and deployment, by controlling the full life cycle of seaweed including reproduction, nursery, and deployment, we establish a resilient biological foundation for large-scale ocean farming. Our seed bank ensures a stable and continuous supply of high-quality seedstock, enabling reliable cultivation even under changing environmental conditions.
